The widely-used cookie consent management tool, WPConsent, has released significant updates that streamline privacy compliance and minimize intrusion for users. It now includes new functionality to support Global Privacy Controls, enabling websites to automatically respect privacy preferences set at the browser level. This assists with compliance to regulations such as the CCPA and minimizes obstacles for users. Additionally, the Shared Consent feature across subdomains ensures that a visitor’s preferences are consistent throughout the entire site, preventing repeated consent banners from appearing on related subdomains. Another update introduced is the ‘Clarity Consent Mode’, which maintains the functionality of Microsoft Clarity in a restricted, cookie-free manner until users provide their consent. This is crucial as Clarity will begin implementing consent requirements on October 28, 2023, for the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Additionally, site owners now have the ability to personalize banners and messages according to the geographical location or region of their visitors. For instance, you can display GDPR-specific text in Europe while providing simpler notices in other regions.
